Hi, I'm Mary

I started drawing as a kid. This led to lots of art classes in high school and a degree in graphic design.

But I never considered myself an artist. While graphic design is steeped in it, it never occurred to me to develop a style of my own. I thought that was for other people – the fine artists of the world. Then, I discovered surface pattern design and the diversity of people and backgrounds that were creating art. This really inspired me, and I have discovered the joy of a daily art practice which has brought me to this point – Fourth Lake Studio.

After lots of exploration over the years I keep coming back to themes based on my adventures in the Adirondack mountains in NY. The colors, water, mountains, birds, flowers, mud (iykyk) – they all keep showing up in my sketchbook.

This art is a reflection of those adventures and each piece has a story behind it. Enjoy the scenes and I hope to bring some color into your world.
